Why contractors bring us their traffic control
What you get on every shift, and how we make sure of it.
-
The plan and the permit, handled.
HowWe draw the traffic guidance scheme for your site, at the smallest crew the standard allows, and lodge the council or Transport for NSW application. On the first call we tell you the real lead time for your council, so the crane, the pump and the crew are booked for a date that will actually be approved.
-
A crew that's ready when you are.
HowEvery controller gets a reminder before they need to leave, a team leader runs the site, and fatigue limits are checked before anyone is rostered. The current traffic guidance scheme is on every controller's phone at your site.
-
Short notice is normal here.
HowOne in four of this year's jobs was booked less than 24 hours ahead. Call the afternoon before and we'll tell you straight whether we can crew it, rather than leave you hanging.
-
No surprises on the invoice.
HowBefore the crew leaves, your supervisor checks the docket on the team leader's phone, with every controller's start, finish, breaks and hours, and signs it. What you sign is what you're billed for.
-
Paperwork your safety file will love.
HowToolbox talk, signed SWMS and fit-for-duty declarations on 97% of shifts, recorded digitally with the time and place. Ask for any job's records and we'll send them over.
-
The crew in pink.
HowCrown is woman-owned and most of our controllers are women. Our pink hi-vis is impossible to miss on a busy road, and residents, shoppers and drivers get a friendly, straight answer.

Already have a traffic control company?
Don't switch. Add a backup crew.
Keep the company you use now. Put Crown on as your second call, for the shift they can't cover or the extra crew you need at short notice. If we earn the next one, great.
- Call or send the form. We set up your account in one conversation.
- Book your first shift. Your first month's shifts are 10% off.
- Judge us on the job. Two in three of our customers come back for more.
The jobs we're booked for most
Two or three controllers and a ute, on your site by start time.
Crane lifts
Pools over the roof, steel, roof trusses, air conditioning units. We close the lane, hold traffic and people clear of the lift, and pack up when the crane does.
Concrete pours
The pump and the trucks get a safe lane and traffic keeps moving past, so the pour doesn't stop for anyone.
Deliveries and site gates
Our most booked job. Trucks in and out of your site on time, with pedestrians and traffic held clear.
Stop/slow roadworks
Kerb and gutter, service pits, driveways, line marking and civil works, including at traffic signals.
Lane and road closures
Lane, shoulder and full closures, contraflow and detours, day or night, set out to the traffic guidance scheme.
Events
Race days, festivals, markets and community events: parking, pedestrian crossings and road closures for the crowd.
Not sure what your job needs?
What a job on the road usually needs.
A plain guide. Every job is different, so send us the address and the date and we'll tell you exactly what yours needs and how much notice it takes, free.
A traffic guidance scheme
The drawing of every sign, cone and controller for your site (it used to be called a traffic control plan). It has to be drawn by someone holding the plan design ticket. Councils check you have one, but the safety of the setup stays with whoever holds the permit, so it needs to be right.
Council approval for local streets
Taking a lane, the footpath or parking spaces on a council road needs a road occupancy or Section 138 permit. Every council has its own form, fee and deadline: some turn simple ones around in a couple of business days, crane and full road closures can take weeks, and anything that goes to a council traffic committee can take months.
A Road Occupancy Licence for state roads
Work on a state road, or within 100 metres of traffic lights, needs a Road Occupancy Licence from Transport for NSW. Allow at least 10 working days.
Notices and a rain plan
Full closures usually mean telling the police and letterboxing the residents, often a week ahead. Most permits are for one date only, so agree what happens if it rains before you book the crane.
The right crew
Two or three controllers and a ute for most jobs. We work the crew out from the scheme, not from guesswork, and never pad it.
This is general information, not legal advice. Rules differ between councils and road types.

What our customers say
What our customers say
"Jamie's extremely professional approach and knowledge of TNSW roads and protocols provided timely and flexible service in our ever changing site conditions. I highly recommend Jamie and her crew at Crown Traffic Services."
Simon Andrew BrandMona Vale UpgradeCrown is run by Jamie Starcic from Albion Park. When you call, you talk to the people who roster the crew, so the answer you get on the phone is the crew you get on the day.
"The best marketing you'll ever have is a client who says, you need to go to her."
Questions
The things people ask before they book.
How much notice do you need?
For a crew alone, often just the day before: one in four of this year's jobs was booked less than 24 hours ahead. If the job needs a road approval, the approval sets the date. A Road Occupancy Licence needs at least 10 working days, and council permits range from a couple of days to several weeks. Call early and we'll tell you the real lead time for your council.
Who organises the road closure for a pool or crane lift?
It has to be sorted before crane day, whoever books it. Send us the address and the lift date: we draw the plan, lodge the council application and have the crew set up for the lift. Tell your pool or crane company we're doing the traffic side, and it's one less thing for everyone.
Can you work to the plan my last traffic company drew?
Send it over. We'll check it against your site and tell you before you book whether we can work to it as drawn, or whether it needs redrawing and the approval updating.
Do I need traffic control for a crane lift or concrete pour on my street?
If the crane, pump or trucks take up any part of the road or footpath, or people and cars have to be held while the work happens, you almost certainly need traffic control and a traffic guidance scheme, and often a council approval to use the road. Send us the address and the date and we'll tell you what applies, free.
How is a job priced?
By the crew the job needs (usually two or three controllers and a ute) and the hours on site. Your supervisor signs the docket with every controller's hours before we leave, so the invoice matches what you saw. New accounts get 10% off every shift in their first month.
I already have a traffic control company. Why would I add you?
Because the day they can't cover your shift is the day your crane, pump or trucks are already booked. Keep them, open an account with us, and you have a second crew one phone call away.
Do you travel?
Yes. We're based in Albion Park and work across the Illawarra and the Southern Highlands every week, and our crews already work in Sydney, the Blue Mountains and down the South Coast. For longer jobs away from home we plan the crew around the drive and fatigue limits.
Do you do night and weekend work?
Yes. Nights and weekends are about one in five of our jobs, from road and rail works to events.
What do I get after the job?
A works docket signed on site by your supervisor, with every controller's start, finish, breaks and hours. The toolbox talk, SWMS and fit-for-duty records for the shift are kept with the job, and we'll send them over if your safety file needs them.
